Red Rocks Trading Post in Morrison

Red Rocks is one of those places that doesn’t really need an introduction. But what people don’t always realize is that you can actually hold a small ceremony there. The Trading Post area is typically used for weddings and is part of Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre.

Because it’s a public space with designated ceremony areas, it works well as a small outdoor wedding venue in Colorado. It’s also one of the top small outdoor wedding venues in the area.

What’s special:
Iconic red rock formations with a natural amphitheater setting. This is one of the most recognizable ceremony backdrops in Colorado.

Ceremonies are held at the Trading Post or other designated areas within Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre. It’s managed by Denver Arts & Venues, and permits are required for weddings and ceremonies. Availability depends on location and existing park/event schedules.

Varies by location, but smaller ceremony sites like the Trading Post are typically suited for small to mid-size groups. Exact limits depend on the permitted area and setup.

Sunrise Amphitheatre in Boulder

Sunrise Amphitheatre sits on Flagstaff Mountain overlooking Boulder and is reservable through the City of Boulder. It’s a stone amphitheater, originally built in the early 1900s, that has become a go-to ceremony location for smaller weddings.

It’s especially popular for couples searching for small wedding venues in Colorado with mountain views as you get a full overlook without needing to hike or travel far.

What’s special:
A stone amphitheater in Flagstaff Mountain with wide-open views overlooking Boulder. It’s simple, scenic, and naturally set up for ceremonies.

Key details:
Sunrise Amphitheatre is reserved directly through Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks. You select your date, choose a time block, estimate your guest count, and submit your reservation online. 

Guest capacity:
Up to 100 guests.

Flagstaff House Restaurant in Boulder

Flagstaff House sits about 6,000 feet above Boulder. It’s known for its fine dining experience and panoramic mountain views. Because it operates as a restaurant, guest counts are inherently smaller, making it a strong option for intimate wedding venues in Colorado.

What’s special:
Sweeping mountain and Boulder views paired with an elevated dining experience. It’s one of those venues where the food is just as much a part of the day as the setting.

Key details:
Flagstaff House is located in the foothills just outside Boulder, about five minutes from Pearl Street. Known for its panoramic views of both the mountains and surrounding landscape, it is also nationally recognized for its fine dining and wine program. There is a strong focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

Juniper Mountain House in Evergreen

Juniper Mountain House is a private venue located in Evergreen that hosts weddings, retreats, and small gatherings. This small wedding venue in Colorado focuses on events rather than large-scale weddings.

A private, boutique mountain property with a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, designed specifically for intimate gatherings where you can have the entire place to yourselves.

Key details:
Juniper Mountain House is available for full property buyouts, which means you get exclusive access to the lodge, two treehouses, and surrounding outdoor spaces. The property spans about 10 acres and includes areas like a forest meadow, lodge deck, and indoor lounge for different parts of the day. They also offer a more hands-on, full-service approach, helping with planning details and vendor recommendations to support smaller, intentional events.

Guest capacity:
Up to 50 guests for weddings and events, with accommodations for up to 14 overnight guests.

The Observatory at Alta Lakes in Telluride

Alta Lakes is located near Telluride at approximately 11,000 feet elevation and boasts alpine lakes and beautiful mountain peaks. It’s a more remote location, which naturally creates an immersive experience.

The Observatory structure provides an indoor event space while still being fully surrounded by nature. It’s a great option for couples looking at small wedding venues in Colorado mountains that feel less traditional and more experience-based. 

What’s special:
A remote, alpine setting that truly feels like you’re on top of the world, Wildflowers, mountain views, and a quiet you don’t really get in more populated areas.

Key details:
The Observatory is located at Alta Lakes near Telluride. Its secluded setting and open landscape immerse couples in nature. Because of its remote location, it’s best for smaller gatherings rather than large-scale weddings.

Up to 45 guests for a wedding ceremony or celebration.

Evergreen Lake House 

Evergreen Lake House is a public venue managed by Evergreen Park & Recreation District and sits directly on Evergreen Lake. It offers both indoor and outdoor event space.

Couples often include it in searches for small outdoor wedding venues in Colorado because of the lake and mountain views. And the indoor option makes it more practical year-round.

What’s special:
Lakeside views with that classic Colorado log cabin feel. It’s a spot that feels like a mountain getaway without being too far out.

Key details:
Evergreen Lake House is available year-round for weddings and events. The space offers both private weddings and larger community events, and offers a mix of indoor and outdoor areas overlooking the water.

Guest capacity:
Up to 200 guests. 

Maroon Bells Amphitheatre in Aspen

Maroon Bells Amphitheatre is located within White River National Forest and offers direct views of the Maroon Bells peaks. Ceremonies require reservations and permits through the U.S. Forest Service. Because of the permit system and guest limitations, it naturally fits into small intimate wedding venues in Colorado.

What’s special:
Direct views of the Maroon Bells with a simple, designated ceremony space. It’s one of the most iconic mountain backdrops in Colorado without needing much added to it. 

Key details:
The amphitheatre is located in the Maroon Bells Scenic Area near Aspen and operates on a permit and reservation system that typically opens about a year in advance and fills quickly. Ceremony time slots run between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and the site is generally available from early June through early October. No receptions, amplified sound, or large décor are allowed as the space is designed specifically for ceremonies.

A-Frame Club in Winter Park

A-Frame Club is a collection of A-frame cabins in Winter Park that are used for retreats and small group gatherings. Designed for overnight stays and shared experiences rather than single-day events, it’s one of the more unique intimate wedding venues in Colorado, especially for couples who want a weekend-style celebration.

What’s special:
A modern mountain setting with curated A-frame cabins, an event lawn, and an on-site restaurant and saloon. It feels more like a full experience than just a ceremony location.

Key details:
A-Frame Club offers both lodging and event spaces, including a riverside lawn for ceremonies and an indoor saloon and restaurant for receptions. The venue is open year-round and hosts one event per day. Food and beverage are provided in-house with a French, après-inspired menu. A wedding planner is required, and on-site accommodations, parking, and rentals for indoor spaces are available. This venue is more all-in-one option compared to some other small wedding venues in Colorado mountains.

Guest capacity:
Up to 100 guests outdoors, while indoor space accommodates up to 50 seated or 75 for a standing reception. 

Denver Botanic Gardens (The Woodland Mosaic)

The Woodland Mosaic is part of Denver Botanic Gardens and is a glass conservatory designed for events. It’s filled with plants and natural light, offering an indoor space that feels connected to nature.

It’s great for couples looking for alternatives to small wedding venues in Colorado with mountain views while still wanting a natural setting. It stands out among all the wedding venues in Colorado because it protects from the weather while still feeling like outdoors.

What’s special:
This glass-enclosed solarium is set deep in the gardens and feels like its own little world. It’s surrounded by greenery, natural light, and creates a private atmosphere compared to other areas of the gardens.

Key details:
The Woodland Mosaic is one of several event spaces within Denver Botanic Gardens. The gardens offer a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, and couples choose from approved vendors while working within specific venue guidelines to help preserve the property.

Best for smaller, intimate guest counts (exact capacity varies depending on layout and event setup).

Treehaus in Nederland

Treehaus is a modern mountain venue located in Nederland designed for small gatherings. The architecture is more contemporary, which sets it apart from more traditional rustic venues. The scale and layout make it a natural fit for small intimate wedding venues in Colorado, especially for couples who want something minimal. 

What’s special:
A private forest setting with a greenhouse-style conservatory, a creek running through the ceremony space, and a private, cozy feel. It’s one of the most unique and intimate setups out there.

Key details:
Treehaus operates as a private property in Nederland within the Arapahoe National Forest and is designed specifically for small gatherings. The space includes a greenery-filled conservatory for receptions, a wooded ceremony area, and unique features like a vintage Airstream for getting ready. They host a limited number of weddings each year (primarily June through September), and packages often include rentals, coordination, and a multi-course meal. The natural terrain limits accessibility, the property offers limited parking, and the venue keeps events small to reduce environmental impact.

Guest capacity:
Up to 20 guests for full weddings and up to 40 for ceremony-only options (with off-site reception). Elopements for 6 or fewer.

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs

Garden of the Gods is a public park managed by the City of Colorado Springs and allows ceremonies in designated areas with permits. It’s one of the most flexible small outdoor wedding venues in Colorado, especially for couples who don’t want a traditional venue. 

What’s special:
Massive red rock formations in a wide-open, natural setting, and may be one of the most recognizable landscapes in Colorado. 

Key details:
The park allows wedding ceremonies on a first-come, first-served basis, and it doesn’t charge a fee to get married there (though it encourages donations to support the park). Ceremonies must be small and brief, and there are strict rules in place. No receptions (outside of designated picnic areas), no alcohol, no amplified sound, and no decorations. Visitors share the space, and the park doesn’t allow you to reserve or block off areas. The park also designates specific ceremony spots, each with its own capacity limit.

Guest capacity:
Varies by location, typically between 25–50 guests depending on the designated ceremony area.

Tennessee Pass Cookhouse in Leadville

Tennessee Pass Cookhouse is a backcountry dining experience with seasonal access by ski, snowshoe, or hike, known for its remote setting and unique dining setup.

It’s not a traditional venue, but for couples looking at small wedding venues in Colorado mountains that feel more like an experience, it’s a really memorable option.

What’s special:
A true mountain experience with multiple spaces to choose from, ranging from a cozy yurt to a larger open-air tent. All surrounded by alpine views.

Key details:
This venue offers a few different settings depending on the size and feel of your wedding, including a yurt, rustic lodge, and sailcloth tent. They provide in-house catering with a custom menu, along with a day-of coordinator, full-service staff, and rentals like tables, chairs, and linens. Couples also work directly with a wedding specialist who’s part of the ownership team, which makes the planning process feel a little more personal.

Guest capacity:
Up to 45 guests in the yurt, 80 in the lodge, and up to 220 with the sailcloth tent.

How to Choose a Small Wedding Venue in Colorado

Once you start looking at small wedding venues in Colorado, it gets overwhelming pretty quickly. There are a lot of beautiful options, and they all feel a little different in person than they do online.

The biggest thing I usually tell couples is to think less about what looks the most impressive and more about what will actually feel good on your wedding day. A space can be stunning, but if it’s hard to get to, stressful to plan around, or doesn’t fit your guest count, it can change the whole experience.

Guest Count

One of the first things to get really clear on is your guest count. Small intimate wedding venues in Colorado are designed to host smaller groups. Once you go over that number, things can start to feel tight or logistically complicated. On the flip side, if your guest list is really small, a larger venue can feel a little empty.

Venue Access
